Zoetica Wildlife Research Services Inc.

We have a new Living Wage Employer!

Zoetica™ has just become a certified Living Wage Employer - committing to pay their staff and contracted workers a living wage while providing research and consulting services to First Nation, Inuit, Métis; municipal, provincial, and federal governments; and private clients.

Zoetica deliver science-based research to provide answers and solutions to conserve and restore biodiversity, promote sustainable development, and to better our world. Zoetica performs desk, field, and lab- based research focused in areas of biodiversity, ecology, environmental impact assessment, and mitigating negative environmental effects of development. They use both western scientific information and traditional knowledge in information gathering and recommending best practices.

Zoetica was founded by Dr. Bears, a wildlife biologist, EIA specialist, and systems thinker. Dr. Bears established Zoetica based on a heartfelt desire to provide superior environmental consulting services done by experts in their fields, and to provide all services through a pragmatic, interdisciplinary lens.

"Being a living wage employer is part of the equation in ensuring we are providing a long-term career path, and not just a temporary job. It is also a large part of a social equation where we do our part to undo systems of oppression that have kept groups of people from being able to pursue the same opportunities as those who have benefited from those systems." Dr. Heather Bears, Founder, Zoetica™

As the cost of living has increased across BC, the importance of paying a living wage has never been more important. The living wage is the hourly amount someone needs to earn to pay for basic essentials like food and rent, it doesn’t include paying off debt or saving for retirement. The Living Wage for Metro- Vancouver is now $24.08 an hour.

“We’re delighted that Zoetica™ has become a Living Wage Employer. We hope it encourages other employers to join the Living Wage movement. Paying a living wage is good for workers, employers and the local community” said Anastasia French, Living Wage for Families BC.

Certifying as a Living Wage Employer is a voluntary commitment employers make to invest in their communities and local economies. There are now almost 400 Living Wage Employers across BC.
