Ronan's story

"They look out for us around here"

Ronan is 26 and lives in Victoria with his room-mate. He has been working for Pacifica Housing as a Support Worker, since August 2019, moving into fulltime work at the start of the year

He loves working for Pacifica both for the work he does, and the support that his employer provides him.

The benefits plan is awesome! It can be a stressful job, and so it is good that we get counselling.

Before working at Pacifica, Ronan worked in an array of low-income jobs, including in movie theatres, call centres and a bakery. He found this to be tough at times.

It doesn’t feel good to be paid less than we’re worth, particularly on a hard day. The more we work, the less free time we have, to live life.

COVID-19 has been stressful for him. He’s had to adapt the way he works to ensure that the people he supports are kept safe.

If COVID impacted this community it could be very risky.

Now he earns a Living Wage, Ronan feels that he can afford to do a little more and enjoy his days off.

It helps you do your job better if you feel you’re taken care of.
